Week 1: Reboot & Change

What do you do when you’re tired of procrastinating? As an experiment, Maria tried starting a small business at Playground for 4 weeks.

1. How was your Week 1 at the Playground?

After great expectations and a growing impatience, I was boiling with curiosity and excitement to start at the Playground. I didn’t know what to expect, nor I bothered to imagine – it’s never the way we imagine. Having said that, I decided to let the Playground lead me.

This moment was so important for me because I have been thinking about starting my own business for a very long time. Over the years, many ideas passed through my head, but unfortunately, were never been further developed.

I was always convinced that my journey in the business world was just a stepping stone for what awaits me - my own business. Sometimes, I had the feeling that the moment of transformation is close and almost at my fingertips, other times it felt quite distant and fading away.

Last Monday the big moment had come and I finally started this new chapter in my life! In the first 10 minutes of the meeting, I wrote down my core ideas and got the immediate reward of feeling accomplished. Today, I also have a sense that even if I don’t manage to fulfil all the tasks I set for myself, Playground got me to START and there is no going back.

2. Did you learn something about yourself?

Well yes, I’ve learned that stepping out of my comfort zone feels damn beautiful and invigorating. I always thought that I need a better plan or idea, more time to put all the puzzles pieces together - but no it was the fear of the unknown that was stopping. I’ve also learned that although getting out of it is scary, there is a sense of freedom as an award.

3. Is there something you want to do differently?

For now, I know that this was the step in the right direction. I want this story to be an incentive for all the next endeavours that await me. I am ready to commit and achieve my goals! Every step, even a micro one, will lead to success. I control the narrative of my own story. I will conclude the lesson of the week with the quote of the wise Gandalf the Gray: “Things are now in motion that cannot be undone.”

4. How do you feel right now in 1 word:

Change!
